The Times of India, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune

31.03.11 - The Times of India is equipping its Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore printing facilities with mailroom technology from Ferag and thus gearing up to manage the increasing circulations efficiently. The move means that nine out of a total of 15 Times of India printing centres have now opted for solutions from the Swiss mailroom specialist.

With a daily total of 4.3 million copies, the Times of India has the highest circulation of any English-language, broadsheet daily newspaper in the world. Each day, the title reaches more than seven million readers. It is the quest for quality that has made the Times of India so successful over all the years, not only editorially but also in production. On the road to further automation and process optimization, Ferag has been a key strategic partner to the Times of India for many years.

With this latest investment in Ferag mailroom technology, the Times of India can repeat the positive experience gained in other projects, making the realization and subsequent operation of the installations that much easier. Ferag is equipping the new printing centres in Pune and Kolkata as well as the existing facilities in Chennai and Bangalore with integrated conveying, stacking and packaging lines. Each line incorporates the tried-and-tested UTR universal conveyor plus the latest version of the MTS MultiStack stacker. The main reason why Ferag was able to see off the competition was the higher net output of the individual lines.

Automatic topsheet production means that the right information reaches each bundle online, while the company also chose the driver documentation option. Within the concept, the LineMaster line control is responsible for the organization of bundling to give it the ideal distribution structure. Thanks to dynamic route production, several routes can be produced in parallel on a single line, or the LineMaster can select between either series or parallel bundling. As a result, mailroom capacity will always be running at a maximum.
